Our Favourite Hotels

Our Directors, Jamie and Sophie, have lived in Oxford for much of their lives. They have hand-picked their favourite hotels below to help parents to find the best place to stay in Oxford.

It’s worth noting that Oxford is very busy in the summer, and these hotels can get booked up very early each year.

The Randolph

business academic course

We love the Randolph, and if you’re looking for the most special place to stay in Oxford this is it. Situated bang in the centre of Oxford, opposite the famous Ashmolean Museum, the Randolph is only a few minutes’ walk from all the key sites in the city. The bedrooms are spacious and have a historic feel to them, while the food in the dining room is delicious. Also highly recommended is their afternoon tea, and the spa they have hidden away downstairs.

Malmaison

medicine course for teenagers

The most unique hotel in Oxford! Malmaison have taken over the part of the Oxford castle that used to be a prison up until 1996, and have turned the prison rooms into hotel rooms. The castle was originally built in the 11th century by Norman baron Robert D’Oyly, who was given the land by William the Conqueror. The hotel has a boutique feel, and offers very nice food, wine and cocktails.

The Old Bank Hotel

business academic course

Another converted historic building, this hotel is situated on Oxford High Street, overlooking many of the Oxford University colleges. The staff are very friendly, and excellent dining options are on offer here. While the Randolph and Malmaison are owned by large chains, the Old Bank Hotel is an authentic piece of Oxford, being independently owned by a group that run another highly regarded hotel and restaurant in the city.

Oxford Spires

medicine course for teenagers
Oxford Spires is situated a little bit further out, south of the city centre, around a 20 minute walk from the city centre. It’s by the river, and gives you a bit more of a taste of what life is like outside the hustle and bustle of Oxford. It’s also a cheaper alternative to the hotels above, and has a swimming pool.

Courtyard by Marriott

business academic course

One of the newest hotels in Oxford, Courtyard is nestled in the Castle Quarter, making it a fantastic base from which to explore the city while being close to Oxford Scholastica’s campuses. While we haven’t experienced it personally, early reviews look positive, and if you have a chance to visit the rooftop terrace you’ll see glorious views over Oxford including the Oxford Castle opposite.
